The graduate courses are graded as follows:
A+,A...................4.0
A-........................3.7
B+.......................3.3
B.........................3.0
B-........................2.7
Less than B-........0.0
A+, A, B+, and B are passing grades. Students must have a grade
point average better than 3.0 to be considered passing in good standing
within the department. In the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences,
the minimum passing grade in an individual course is B-.
In addition, in the Master of Arts in Physics Education program,
students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better in the three
core courses PHYS 631, 632, and 633 to be considered passing. If your
average falls below 3.0 in these 3 courses, you must repeat the course with
the lowest grade until your average is 3.0 or higher. In determining your
average for this purpose, the lower course grade in the course you are
repeating is not included in the average.
Note that a failed course, i.e. a grade less than B-, is included
in determining you’re over all grade point average. A failed course may
be taken again, but is not removed from your record.
All students are expected to act and take exams in accordance with
the University of Virginia honor system. For details, please see,
