Problem 1

1) a).
We know that the force on an object in an electric field is given by
$\vec{F} = q\vec{E}$
The force on our object is given by
$\vec{F} = (0.24 N)\hat{i} - (0.048 N) \hat{j}$
The magnitude of the force on our object is given by
$\vert\vec{F}\vert = \sqrt{(.24)^{2} + (.048)^{2}} ~=~ 0.245 N$
The angle that this force acts is given by
$\theta = \tan ^{-1} \frac{y}{x}$
$\theta = -11.5{}^{\circ}$

b)
The acceleration in the $\hat{x}$ direction is given by
$a_{x} = \frac{F_{x}}{m}$
ax = 24 m/s2
And in the $\hat{y}$ direction,
ay = -4.8 m/s2
Applying kinematics, we find that
$x = \frac{1}{2} a_{x} t^{2}$
x = 108 m
$y = \frac{1}{2} a_{y} t^{2}$
y = -21.6 m
