Dear Physics 609 Students,
Welcome to Galileo and Einstein.
The lectures are on CD Roms and will be sent via UPS to the address you
provided when you registered. The
lectures are not rehearsed, but are edited versions of live lectures
given in Phys 109 at UVa. Assignments and administrative information
related to the course have been edited from the CDs. Most of the
students in the class take it as
an elective to fullfill a science requirement. Although the class that
is taped is an undergraduate class, you will still find the lectures
interesting and stimulating. Some of the historical material on the sun
and the solar system is useful for your own physical science and
physics
classes. Some knowledge of geometry and math will be helpful in
understanding the
material, particulary with regard to epicycles and special relativity.
Homework and examinations will be given at
the level expected
for teachers taking 600 level graduate courses in physics education.
After I get confirmation from the School of Continuing and Professional
Studies that you have registered, I will set up a user name and
password
on WebAssign for you. I will notify you by email and you will be able
to
log on to WebAssign. You then should learn how to submit homework by
taking the "test" on Webassign that teaches you how to use the system.
You will have to activate your UVa email since all correspondence
will be through your UVa email address. After you have activated your
email address
you will also receive by email a username and password
to use features of Blackboard at UVa. Blackboard will be used as
a discussion board,
chat room, and drop box for this course.
The CD's will be sent by UPS to the address
on
your registration form. Please RSVP via email when you have
received
the CD's.
Please click on the other links and learn more about the details of
this course.
