Week 14 Assignment: Developing Student Problem Solving Skills

Assignment 1: Due on or before May 1, 2006, 5 a.m. Find two other good resources for problem solving skills. If on the Internet, give the URL. If not on the Internet, try to give enough information (or upload the resource) so that others can read and understand it. Summarize in not less than 400 words (in a Word file) why these are good resources (400 words total, not for each). Upload to Open Portfolio as HW28.

Assignment 2: Due on or before May 1, 2006, 5 a.m. Use all the resources we have given you and that you have found to develop a problem solving strategy for use with your students. Do you need different problem solving strategies for different subjects (for example force and motion versus electricity and magnetism)? Develop a presentation of not less than 1000 words that you will use with your students in the future that give strategic steps of problem solving and the practical limitation of each step. It may be useful to give examples. For example, you could use question 4 on page 210 of Five Easy Lessons by Knight to illustrate your problem solving strategy. We want you to have a good strategy presentation that you will use with your students when finished. Upload to Open Portfolio as HW29.
