Where Does My pH Rank?
A Physical Science Activity
Materials (per group)
1 roll of Hydrion Paper
100 mL Apple Juice
100 mL Vinegar
100 mL milk of magnesia (Mg(OH)
bar of soap
100 mL lye or NaOH or drain cleaner
100 mL distilled water
100 mL salt water with a little baking soda added
Find the pH for each substance using Hydrion paper and the pH meter as needed and record that value under the picture of that substance.
Color, cut out the picture and glue it on the pH scale sheet in the correct location.
Is vinegar an acid or base?
Which is a stronger acid than apple juice?
Which pH is that of a strong acid?
Which pH is that of a strong base?
Which of the following food substances is basic?
Which substance is neutral?
What is the strongest acid?
What is the approximate pH of soap?
Which of the following has a pH between apple juice and seven? (Which substance is slightly weaker than apple juice?)
Which has the weakest pH value? (The pH which is most near seven?)
