Remote Access to Files on Galileo
-
Windows 95 or Windows NT:
If you use Microsoft Windows95 or WindowsNT, you can arrange to
have your directory on Galileo appear as a drive on
your local computer. To do this, you must (a) have
an account on Galileo and (b) have an account with the same
user name on the 'physics' NT domain. If you are using
Windows95, you must also be logged in to your computer
under the same user name as the one you use on Galileo.
To perform the drive mapping, start Windows Explorer and
go to "Tools->Map Network Drive".
Choose an unused drive letter and map it to:
\\galileo\userid
Where 'userid' is your user name on Galileo.
If you like, you can check the box labeled 'Restore
connection at next login'. Next, you'll
be asked for a password. Enter your password on the
'physics' NT domain (i.e., the password you use for the
computers in room 315). Under Windows 95, you can
check the box labeled 'Save password in password list'
if you like.
Your directory on Galileo should now appear as a local
drive on your computer. You can use it just as you would
use drive C: or drive A:.
-
Macintosh:
From the chooser, select 'File Servers' and 'Physics Zone'.
You should see 'Galileo' among the servers in at the right-hand
side of the window. Select it, and you'll be asked for a user
name and password. Give the user name and password you normally
use for logging in to Galileo. Your directory on Galileo
should now appear as an item on your desktop. You can use
it as you would any local disk drive.
