Interionic potentials and epitaxy on NaCl(001) and KBr(001)

Abstract

Using a variety of interatomic potentials, we compute the configurations of adsorbed NaCl and KBr monomers on NaCl(001) and KBr(001) surfaces. In our best estimate, the monomer adsorbes with the cation nearly on top of the surface anion and is tilted by 33-55° from the vertical.
