Research Objectives
  • Combine experimental and multiscale-atomistic-modeling efforts to design alloys for discovering non-ferromagnetic iron-based bulk metallic glasses, defined as Fe-Based SAM.
  • Understand glass formability and obtain 3D amorphous structure via atomistic modeling and scattering experiment.
  • Develop microscopic models to achieve predictive synthesis of bulk metallic glasses.
  • Design composites via controlled devitrification to achieve significant improvement in mechanical properties.
  • Demonstrate that the discovered metallic glasses can be cast into sheets of several millimeters thick.
